Israel Travel Guide: The Gulf Of Aquaba

Israel - the middle eastern country has a long coastline and the far northern end of the Red Sea is divided into two parts by the Sinai Peninsula. The divided eastern portion is known as The Gulf of Aqaba. This gulf is bordered by the countries of Israel, Jordan and Saudi Arabia. In Israel it is often named as the Gulf of Eilat.

The Gulf of Aqaba is about one hundred and sixty kilometers long ,with its widest point spanning twenty eight kilometres. The Gulf of Aqaba is entered through the Straits of Tiran and has played a major role in the Iran-Iraq War throughout the 1980s.Thereafter Iraqi aid helped the country's roads and transportation systems develop.

The oxygen-rich water has a constant temperature of twenty one to twenty four degree centigrate.

A tourist would want to visit here if he wants to see heaven on earth becuase this place has both deserts and seas together. The Red Sea coastline along the Sinai Peninsula has a rare combination of natural attributes - sandy beaches, arid climate, dramatic desertscapes .Its a beautiful scenery for all the eyes who see this place.

This gulf is a diving paradise because this is one of the world's premier sites for the same. This gulf is rich in coral reefs and accidental wrecks of ships are found here. Some deliberate vessels are also found underwater in order to provide a habitat for marine organisms.

Diving is the soul income bringer for this gulf.Around two lac fifty thousand dives are performed annually . The ruins of the iron-age civilization of Ayla in the city of Aqaba and the Landscape of Wadi Rum are the other major popular destinations.

The resorts at the southern edges of the gulf are fast becoming major tourist destinations for scuba divers and sun worshipers because of their consistent sunshine, coral reefs and white sand beaches like Sharm al-Sheikh and others.

The gulf of Aqaba is still bein developed. The Jordanian Aqaba Regional Authority has prepared a master plan for tourism development in the Aqaba region in which an additional 2,000 hotel rooms are planned for Aqaba Town .This place is good for tourists but not for someone who wants to practise agriculture because lack of water and harsh soil conditions make the region problematic in terms of agricultural output.
